What are blackheads?
How to Remove Large Blackhead, also called open comedones, mainly form on the face around the nose and in the rest of the T-zone. Especially the forehead and chin. They occur due to blockage of the Pilaris canal by keratinocytes (a mixture of sebum and dead cells).
These keratinocytes are supposed to shed every day, but during hormonal changes or in cases of poor skin hygiene, this peeling does not occur properly. Dead cells oxidize when exposed to air and clog drainage, causing comedones. If left untreated, they will turn into whiteheads and then buttons.
Causes of blackheads
- Puberty and hormonal changes. The production or intake of hormones activates the sebaceous glands responsible for sebum production. Throughout life, these hormonal factors (taking pills, menopause…) make the skin more sensitive and contribute to the appearance of blackheads.
- The use of so-called comedogenic cosmetics. These are often thick or occlusive makeup products, such as sunscreen powder. It is advisable to check labels and choose non-comedogenic products.
- Poor skin cleanliness and a diet too rich in fat or sugar.
- Oily or mixed skin is more prone to blackheads. Pores are more enlarged and produce more sebum than dry skin.
